The
Old Post Office A
charming English Country Cottage, The Old Post Office on The Green is
the idealist's 'chocolate box' cottage (for those of you who remember
the days when Cadbury's Dairy Box came in flat boxes the size of a small
suitcase adorned with photographs of beautiful thatched cottages, kittens
or puppies). Anyway, back to telling you about The Old Post Office. The
cottage is believed to be over two hundred years old and served as the
village post office until 1935. It was formerly multiple dwellings, but
now stands as one detached house, providing spacious and comfortable accommodation.
The cottage enjoys many features such as sloping ceilings, oak beams,
open fire and a large enclosed garden. Sensitively modernised, it sleeps
eight people and retains its natural character, blending old world charm
with modern day conveniences. The cottage is well equipped and lends itself
to that perfect family gathering or celebration.
Nestling
in the heart of the village, The Old Post Office occupies an elevated
position on the southern slopes of Hardown Hill, facing Stonebarrow Hill,
which is owned by the National Trust. The surrounding countryside and
Heritage coastline is some of the most beautiful in the area, and officially
designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The National Trust's
Golden Cap Estate, where southern England's highest cliff can be found,
is within walking distance as are many other beauty spots. The villages
and beaches of Chideock and Charmouth (novelist Jane Austen's favourite
resort) are both within 2½miles. Local pub and village store, ¼mile.
There
is designated parking at the cottage but we regret no smoking and no pets.
