THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Relax | Unwind | Explore

The Old Post Office is beautifully located to optimise relaxation time, however, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Family entertainment is easily achieved with the Butterfly Zoo and Hedge Puzzle a little car journey away and is a great way to entertain the little ones.

Near to The Old Post Office, we have the Peregrine Path that runs alongside the riverbank, providing a lovely 7.5 mile walk or bike ride with plenty to see and do on route. This route is the gateway to the area’s iconic Yat Rock, where, if you are lucky, you might spot Peregrine’s nesting on the cliff side.

For those who like something a little more adventurous, families can go abseiling, climbing, and caving at the Wyedean Canoe and Adventure Centre. The centre also offers canoe hire, kayaking and paddleboards. The surrounding area offers activities in abundant supply. Whether you want to hiking in The Black Mountains and find tucked away eccentric pubs, quirky churches and abbeys; visiting castles; adrenaline fuelled climbs and zip-wire’s at Go Ape; riding a steam train through the forest or taking a trip to the caves at Clearwell, The Old Post Office is ideally situated to make memories happen.

We provide guidebooks in the cottage with details of where to find out more about the amazing things that you can see and do nearby  our holiday let cottage.

PLACES TO EAT & LOCAL AMENITIES

The little greengrocer/deli in Whitchurch will provide most of the necessary ingredients for home cooking but if you fancy eating out, The Old Post Office is spoilt for choice when it comes to clean and friendly local pubs.

Across the river via hand-ferry, The Saracen’s Head offers excellent gastropub food and just down the river via a short walk (on the same side as The Old Post Office) is the Ye Old Ferrie Inn. Into Whitchurch itself, The Crown offers food all day and has a selection of lovely hand-pulled beer.

For those who fancy a take-away or something a little more exotic, Monmouth has a great choice of Thai, Indian or Italian food, as well as an abundance of day-time cafes. Monmouth is a lovely little town that is full of independent food shops and also boasts of having a greengrocer, a deli, two butchers and a Waitrose, M&S Food and The Co-Op.
